First Brigade Band performs Celebration of America at Fairbanks Park

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The First Brigade Band took music lovers back to the Civil War era Saturday evening at Fairbanks Park.

Musicians performed music from the war and told historical stories from the time. The concert was inspired by the Brodhead Brass Band, who enlisted in the Union Army in 1864.

Dewayne Roberson, associate band master, said the group practices every Friday. He also said they were excited to perform.

“When we get out to do shows that’s really what we want to do,” Roberson said. “We have a lot of fun together as a group, but we also like to have the opportunity to perform for people and it’s so different. The music is so different, the instruments are different, the clothing is all different. It just brings a very interesting performance that people just don’t see everyday.”

All music performed was done on authentic antique instruments from or before the time period of the Civil War.
