TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Firefighters in Terre Haute batted a housefire Friday afternoon.

The fire was in a home located in the 300 block of Gilbert Avenue. Terre Haute Fire Battalion Chief Scott Dalton said the call came in around 2 p.m. when firefighters arrived on the scene there were flames showing from the back of the structure.

Dalton says the wind direction caused the fire to spread rapidly. Once the fire was under control crews searched the building and confirmed no one had been inside. firefighters had cleared the scene by 4:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Dalton says there was no electricity or gas currently servicing the building so the cause of the fire is under investigation.
