VIGO Co., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Wednesday night’s fire at the ReConserve warehouse was so large, responding firefighters said it could be seen for miles.
“They could see smoke from the fire house, heavy black smoke,” said Josh Sittler of Honey Creek Fire Department.
According to Sittler, when fire crews arrived on scene the building was up in flames. No one was inside.
Several agencies responded, spending nearly 4 hours fighting the fire and hours more putting out hot spots.
“This is in the industrial park. This is big news when a business burns, especially with this amount of damage,” said Sittler.
He said the damage won’t be easy to fix and makes things harder in an already difficult time.
“Everybody knows what we have going on right now. We have COVID-19 and this is just a big loss to this business and the community,” Sittler said.
He added that the building would need to be completely rebuilt.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
