It’s planting time around the Wabash Valley, and on one small plot of land, the hope is for a bumper crop of good will.
On Monday, Precision Ag students from Ivy tech started prepping several acres of land along Davis Drive. And when it’s harvested, it will all go to feed local folks in need.
“Last year we saw somewhere between 100,000 to 150,000 ears of sweet corn and that corn all went into our emergency food assistance program thru Terre Haute Catholic Charities food bank,” says Jennifer Buell of Terre Haute Catholic Charities.
The students don’t plant the entire 600 acres at one time. They spread it out, which in turn, spreads out the harvest, making the donation last longer.
