Federal prison confirms death of inmate at Terre Haute facility

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An inmate at the Terre Haute federal prison has died.

Jenna Epplin, public information officer for the Terre Haute facility, confirmed the inmate died Sunday morning; however, no information has been released regarding the circumstances surrounding the death.

This is the second death of an inmate at the facility this month. On May 5, Jose Nieves-Galarza, 59, was found unresponsive by staff, and was later pronounced dead by EMS personnel. The prison said COVID-19 was not suspected to be the cause of Nieves-Galarza’s death.

This is a developing story. Continue following WTWO/WAWV on air and online for updates.
