FBI arrests John Doe after seeking help from public

UPDATE: According to the FBI, John Doe 44 has been identified, located and is now in custody in Mississippi.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTWO/WAWV) — The FBI is asking for the public’s help in identifying an unknown male who may have information regarding the identity of a child victim in an ongoing sexual exploitation investigation being conducted by the bureau.

As part of this process, the FBI has released photographs and an informational poster about the man that can be found here. He is only known as John Doe 44 to the FBI.

Initial video of John Doe 44 showing him with a child was first recorded by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in February, but the file data showed the videos were recorded or produced before November 2018.

The person of interest is described as a white male with light brown hair and wearing a navy blue t-shirt. He is heard speaking English in the video, but it is possible that appearance and defining characteristics have changed since the video was recorded.

Anyone with any information regarding John Doe 44 should submit a tip online to tips.fbi.gov or call the FBI’s tip line at 1-800-225-5324. The FBI also wants to remind the public that no criminal charges have been filed in this case and that the man identified in these photos is innocent until proven guilty.
