A local woman is dead after an overnight accident in Northwest Vigo County.
According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened just after 2:00 a.m., on U.S. 150 in Libertyville.
Vigo County deputies and New Goshen Fire crews responded to accident; upon arrival they discovered the vehicle had been involved in a violent crash and had caught fire.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as a 28-year-old female from Paris, Illinois, was found dead at the scene. Officials say the cause of death was found to be blunt force trauma.
They also say the vehicle appeared to have left the roadway while traveling North on US 150 and overcorrected causing the vehicle to leave the roadway strike an embankment returned to roadway and caught fire. Due to the destructive nature of the fire it could not be determined if the occupant was restrained at the time of the crash.
The identity of the victim has yet to be determined at this time.
