TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — the lives of local heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice were honored Sunday at the annual fallen Heroes Day ceremony.

The bell rang, remembering the lives of First Responders who died in the line of duty.

Families and loved ones gathered at the Police and Fire museum in Terre Haute to hear from speakers and take time to reflect.

“It’s just paying respect, especially for the family members that come back every year. We need to remember all our fallen, whatever department they come from,” said Terre Haute Fire Chief Jeff Fisher.

Chief Fisher said this years’ ceremony was special for him after losing Terre Haute Firefighter john Schoffstall who died in April due to COVID-19 complications.
