Encouraging Caution

Collisions on I-70 have been unavoidable lately, so IN-DOT is taking measures to keep drivers safe.

The Indiana Department of Transportation has put more sign-age along both lanes of the interstate to encourage drivers to adhere to the speed limits, and merge into the proper lane in construction zones. Traffic on these roads can be very hazardous, so IN-DOT officials cannot stress enough the importance of slowing down.

“So we just ask people to remember how to drive safely through a work zone, and that is mainly pay attention to the  signage, slow down, keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you and get through there safely,” says Communications Director for IN-DOT, Debbie Calder.

Calder also advises people that those work zones can be very hazardous.

“Four out of five injuries in our work zones are actually the people driving through it  so we not only stress safety for the drivers, but for our workers out there so we just ask you to expect the unexpected slow down don’t tailgate, pay attention to the work zone signs and do exactly what they say.”

The construction for I-70 westbound lanes should wrap up around November 1st. As for the eastbound lane, that should conclude November the 8th.
