Emergency Shelter Going Public

News

The Council On Domestic Abuse or CODA,  kept the location,  of its emergency shelter confidential in the past, to help protect the safety of clients.

But officials have changed that policy announcing the location, with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Tuesday, they received, a plaque from the Chamber Of Commerce.

Officials say, it was time for a change.

“We want them to know that we are here,” Sarah Campbell said. “Domestic violence shouldn’t be a secret topic, it should be a secret thing happening to someone and our location of our shelter shouldn’t be a secret. So we want the community talking about this topic so victims are more likely to come forward when they need help.”

The first step, for anyone who needs help, is to call CODA’s, Crisis hotline at 812–232–1736. It’s available, 24 hours a day.
