Eastern Illinois University hosted its Veterans Day ceremony on Friday and a native from Paris, Illinois, received a very special honor.
EIU presented ROTC Cadet Joseph Winkler the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross for Achievement.
It’s a very prestigious award and one of the highest honors a cadet can achieve.
In fact, only 80 Bronze Crosses are being awarded in the country this year.
EIU President David Glassman says the university is so proud of Cadet Winkler and Winkler says he’s very honored, and humbled.
“I’ve always just tried to be the best that I could be. Strived to reach out as far as I can and prepare myself for my subordinates or anyone who may need help in the future,” says Cadet Winkler.
He says he will earn his commission in May. He wants to pursue a Masters in Clinical Psychology Counseling, helping veterans with stress management.
