A unique competition between the four high schools in Crawford County, Illinois came to an end today, and everyone came out a winner.
The participating schools included Robinson, Oblong, Paletstine and Hutsonville. Each school sold raffle tickets for a chance at a new car. The schools got to keep 100% of the proceeds, and the school that sold the most tickets got to draw the winner.
Here are the ticket totals:
Oblong – 641
Hutsonville – 683
Robinson – 1058
Palestine – 1744
“We knew we had a fabulous opportunity here and we took advantage of it from the get go. I knew a small school could do big things, and we pushed it, and pushed it, and sold 1,744 raffle ticket,” said Palestine Principal Tangi Waldrop.
With each ticket selling for $10, Palestine high school will receive more than $17,000.
The Silverthorne Auto Group was very generous in donating the car. “I know that Illinois has had some issues and we’re trying to think of ways to help out,” said dealership owner Scott Silverthorne.
The raffle winner is Ed Easter from Sullivan. He will get to choose between a Ford Focus, Dodge Dart, or Chevy Cruze, all 2016 models.
