Eagle Scout gives back to homeless veterans

News

A local Eagle Scout used his status preparation to serve the homeless veterans in his community.

Tyler Barnette worked alongside the Loyal Veterans Battalion to create a program that brings care bags to the homeless.

In each of the 19 bags is food, water, clothes, blankets and hygiene products.

Barnette has been working with the Loyal Veterans Battalion for a year, and has since donated over 200 dollars in funding for the cause.

“My dad is a Marine Corps veteran. My brother is in the Marine Corp right now and I plan on going into the military and I know the community. When you get out of the military, some people have like struggles,” said Barnette, “And being able to reach out there and help those people, because I know that one day I may be in that brotherhood, just really hits home with me.”

All 19 bags were distributed to the homeless vets around Terre Haute.

For those in need of services from the LVB, the clothing closet is open the second Saturday of every month.
