Unhappy Duke Energy customers have been blowing up social media and the company’s phone lines over the last couple of weeks.
The customers are upset over higher-than-expected utility bills. There have been so many complaints that Duke started investigating and the company has found a number of issues.
A company spokesperson tells WTWO that in some cases, there may have been errors made in reading the meters.
There’s also the possibility that newly installed smart meters are giving a more accurate reading of usage.
And, cold weather also plays into it.
Still, the numerous complaints have prompted the company to bring a special customer service team to Terre Haute.
You can speak to the reps between 7am and 6pm at the District Office, that’s at 301 Home Ave. in Terre Haute.
The reps will be there beginning February 14th, 15th, and 16th.
They will return the following week February 21st, 22nd, and 23rd.
The meetings are on a first come, first serve basis. You must have a valid form of ID. Your name must be on the account.
