Duke Energy is taking stock of its response to last week’s severe storm.
The utility company is evaluating how it handled the widespread outages that happened Wednesday and lasted until Friday. Just over 41,000 customers lost power.
To handle the repairs, Duke deployed 350 company linemen and contractors. In some cases, restoring power couldn’t begin until another chore was complete.
“Before we could even get started we had 67 areas that we had to clear trees out before we could even get in and do work,” said Rick Burger.
Burger says the storm turned into a good test for the new smart meters that have been installed locally. Duke was able to use the meters to pinpoint when crews restored power in certain areas.
