In honor of Read Across America students from Dixie Bee Elementary attended “Dr. Seuss Day at College.”
The kids know an impressive amount of Dr. Seuss facts. That knowledge was on full display to celebrate the author’s birthday.
The Dixie Bee Elementary students visited Mrs. Cole, the Ivy Tech liaison who reads Dr. Seuss books to the third graders every month.
In addition to reading, Mrs. Cole prepares a new Dr. Seuss activity to do with the kids each time she visits. The “grand finale” of events is when the tables are turned and the class takes a field trip to Ivy Tech to play Dr. Seuss jeopardy.
The only preparation the kids have before participating in the game is from reading the Dr. Seuss books throughout the year.
Judy Lawler, the third grade class’ teacher, says, “any time you can get children excited about literature, you want to do that. And she gets them excited about literature through Dr. Seuss. So it’s just a wonderful way to turn them onto reading.”
Lawler said it was a great day for the field trip because her class just finished iSTEP testing this morning.
