Local folks who struggle to afford utilities could get more help thanks to a donation made on Monday.
100+ Women Who Care Vigo County donated $16,000 to St. Joseph Utilities Assistance Ministries.
The money will help the working poor avoid, or re-connect, a disconnected utility.
“We find there’s an uptick in the number of people who come to the Salvation Army for assistance, especially in the winter time,” says volunteer Jennifer Piker. “We cover not just electric and gas, but water, sewer, any of the utilities that impact their quality of life.”
Monday’s donation is one of the quarterly grants 100+ Women Who Care Vigo County provides to local charities.
