Dense fog leads to a school bus accident in Sullivan County Wednesday morning.

Police say it happened just shortly after 7 A.M. at the intersection of State Road 48 and State Road 63.

Police say the bus driver was headed westbound on SR48, approaching the SR63 intersection. Due to the heavy fog, police say he couldn’t see the stop sign in time.

Police say he applied his brakes and skidded off the roadway into a field.

There were 27 students aboard the Rural Community Academy school bus at the time.

Police say an 11-year-old male student was transported to the hospital for a complaint of head pain.

Police say no citations were issued and speed was not a factor.

Representatives from the Rural Community Academy School were also at the scene, as well as another RCA school bus to transport the students. Police say several families of the students were also present.

The bus involved in the accident was not damaged.

Indiana State Police and the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident.
