Deming Park Pride

As far as parks go in the Wabash Valley, Deming is a crowd favorite. And it’s easy to see why.

“Just to have the green space, you know, anytime you can have such pretty surroundings, the trees and things, it’s a good venue for the entire community,” park goer, Holly Curtsinger said.

But its not only the scenery that brings park goers.

“The train…[my kids] definitely enjoy the train and that was a big draw this morning,” she said.

There are many activities the park offers which only helps with its popularity

“I think that it provides a great place for families to come out, you can come for a picnic, we have horseshoes, we have the train, the pool will open soon, so there’s a little bit of everything, our Frisbee golf course, for all ages,” Alysha Kesner, Director of Recreation said.

But with all the sights and sounds, it can be easy to overlook the effort that goes into making the park so appealing. Maintenance crews work day in and out, in and around the park to keep it that way.

“We’re actually under-staffed right now and with budget cuts, we can’t hire anybody new, so they have to work a little bit harder to make sure everything is kept up,” Kesner said.

It might not always be the easiest task, but Deming Park proves that sometimes the unseen pride and effort that goes into something really pays off.
