Death Investigation After Woman Incarcerated at Sullivan County Jail
SULLIVAN COUNTY, IN - A 46 year old woman died after being placed inside a Sullivan County Jail holding cell early Saturday morning. Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom requested the assistance of Indiana State Police in the death investigation.
According to Indiana State Police, the woman was arrested by Sullivan city police for driving while intoxicated Saturday at 1:30 AM. She was placed in a single person holding cell. Around 8 PM Saturday, jail staff witnessed the woman in medical distress over video monitoring in the cell. She was transported to the Sullivan County Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead just an hour late. There are no preliminary indications of self-harm or foul play.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday at 10 AM at Terre Haute Regional Hospital by Dr. Roland Kohr.
A positive identification is expected after the autopsy as well as other information related to the cause and manner of death.
