FARMERSBURG (WTWO/WAWV) — Heavy rain and wind caused damage in parts of Farmersburg Wednesday night, bringing power outages and a closure of Main Street.
“Main Street, here in Farmersburg is closed down at 41,” Farmersburg Town Marshall Cody Strain said. “We’re telling people to divert to Heap Street, or Hopewell, Cyrus or Sawmill Road to where there’s a stop sign, due to the fact that the power is out and the lights are not operational.”
Strain urged residents to stay away from downed lines around town.
“We want to caution people, If you see any form of lines on the ground, do not attempt to go over them. Even if they are telephone lines or cable lines, you don’t know that unless you are a professional.”
The COVID-19 pandemic impacted clean-up efforts as residents and emergency personnel worked to maintain social distancing requirements.
“As far as I know yes, everybody is still taking precautions due to the virus,” Strain noted. “The fire department has been also taking precautions wearing masks, when we’re coming into contact with people. From what I’ve seen they’re keeping the social distancing idea.”
Duke Energy representative Kurt Phegley said to expect full power back in Farmersburg tonight.
