Sullivan County Sheriff Deputy’s responded to a personal injury crash just before noon Tuesday at the intersection of US 41 and Broadway Street in Shelburn.

The semi truck, being driven by Scott McMasters of Cayuga, IN, was southbound on US 41 when a westbound pickup truck pulled into the semi’s path. McMaster applied the semi’s brakes and steered hard right in an attempt to avoid the pickup, however, the two collided.

Both vehicles came to rest in a grassy area. The driver of the pickup was identified as Kathryn Nelson of Shelburn, IN.

She was treated for minor injuries. Deputy Ron Elliott was the primary investigating officer, with Deputy Eric Valdez and Sheriff Clark Cottom assisting.

Sheriff Cottom said had the semi driver not reacted so quickly the crash could have ended in a tragedy.

Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by Curry Township firefighters and the Sullivan County Ambulance Team.
