Newly confirmed COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Indiana and Illinois; 2,521 in Indiana and 3,629 in Illinois

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– The Indiana State Department of Health announced Saturday that 2,521 additional Hoosiers tested positive for COVID-19 through testing at state and private laboratories. This brings the state’s total to 145,977 positive cases since the start of the pandemic.

A total of 3,685 Hoosiers have died from the virus, with an increase of 31 from the previous day. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by the state and occurred over multiple days. 

To date, 2,485,506 tests have been administered, including repeat tests for unique individuals, have been reported to the state Department of Health since Feb. 26.

In Illinois, the Illinois State Department of Public Health reported 3,629 new cases of coronavirus, including 27 additional deaths. The state health officials are now reporting a total of 339,803 cases and 9,192 deaths.

Within the past 24 hours, state laboratories have administered 77,489 new tests for a total of 6,696,257.
