Just several miles outside of Bloomfield is the Hanauer Angus Farm. They raise cattle and crops. But this place smells a little different that a typical farm.
Some people only know Barbara Hanauer as the Cookie Lady. And for good reason. In the first four months of this year, she says she’s baked about 7000 cookies and she’s just getting started. If you’re part of church group, athletic team or a local business there’s a good chance you’ve eaten cookie or two. Even legendary Purdue basketball coach Gene Keady loves her cookies
At 86 years young.. and I mean young.. Mrs. Hanauer’s love of baking started in 4-H years ago.
She treated her husband and six children with cookies and still does.
The always smiling cookie baker worked hard as a farm wife. But she also taught at Bloomfield High for years where she started the girls track program in 1976 and coached until 2012. and she won honors as competitive race walker. Throughout it all, she kept baking cookies.
And the cookies are oh so good.
On a certain day in April, the Cookie Lady delivered a batch or two of chocolate chip cookies to Worthington Elementary School where smiles instantly appeared.
It would be safe to say, that if more people were like the Cookie Lady, the world would be a much sweeter place.
