The downtown convention center received some attention that will help in several ways Thursday evening. The Terre Haute City Council approved two items in connection with the project. First, a schedule of funding for the center was approved. Secondly, it was announced that the city would be part of a group of government groups that will provide funding for the center. The city is providing $10 million and also using TIF (tax increment financing) funding. TIF is often used for redevelopment projects.
Martha Crossen, president of the City Council, said “we have the community working together on this big project, to bring it to fruition. So that is really is a community wide project.”
Crossen also says Vigo County still needs to do paperwork to approve its involvement with the project. After that, bids are expected to taken and the project will move forward.
