OAKTOWN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A major construction project is underway on U.S. 41 in Knox County.
This week the Indiana Department of Transportation began work on U.S. 41 at the intersection of Freelandville and Old U.S. 41.
There’s been a history of severe crashes at that intersection with several fatalities.
Crews are creating what are called “J-turns”. They’re described as two median U-turn intersections.
Jason Tiller with INDOT says this will reduce the number of T-bone accidents, which are often severe.
U.S. 41 will be down to one lane in each direction as crews work. There will be two phases of this project. The first phase should be done by mid-August.
