TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Collett Park Neighborhood Association presented a plan in November for a dog park in Collett Park. This was after the board received $15,000 in grant money from the Wabash Valley Community Foundation.

Speculation on where to place the dog park within Collett has put the idea on hold. The Collett Park Neighborhood Association wants to preserve as much of the park as possible by repurposing half of the horseshoe courts for use of the dog park.

The Parks Board received a letter expressing concerns about this idea causing the dog park to be tabled.

Board member with Collett Park Neighborhood Association David Sulhoff believes this is a need for Collett Park.

“I wouldn’t put my time and energy behind this effort if I didn’t feel like it was needed,” Sulhoff said. “I believe that Collett Park is a natural setting for the many many dog owners that live within the vicinity of the dog park. Especially over the last three years where I’ve personally seen dog ownership rise on the boundary of the park.”

There’s no word yet on when the next discussion will take place.
