There’s a new group in place that aims to inform taxpayers about Vigo County’s financial decisions.
Today, RJL Solutions announced the formation of the Community Strategic Finance Committee.
This effort is a continuation of collaborative meetings among the Terre Haute City Council, Vigo County Council, and Vigo County School Corporation.
“In an effort to keep our citizens informed about how all of this works, we sense an opportunity to be even more transparent,” states Mayor Duke Bennett, City of Terre Haute. “This committee is a way of getting all of the major players together. Although we are required to work individually as separate entities, we recognize that bettering this community is a team effort,” says Mayor Duke Bennett.
The committee is looking at community projects that are considered necessities including the rebuilding or renovation to address infrastructure concerns of the three Vigo County high schools, West Vigo Middle School, the Vigo County Jail, along with the police station and Phase II of the Long Term Control Plan, which have existing funds available.
By collaborating and having conversations with financial experts, there could be opportunities for strategic financing to ease undue cost to the taxpayers.
And while the monthly meetings will not be in a public forum, officials say the public will be privy to specific projects.
The group is comprised of:
Mayor Duke Bennett, City of Terre Haute
Judith Anderson, Vigo County Commissioner
Jim Bramble, County Auditor
Danny Tanoos, Ph.D., Vigo County School Corporation Superintendent
Alpa Patel, VCSC Board Member
Paul Lockhart, VCSC Board Member
Bruce Perry, VCSC CFO
Karrum Nasser, President of Terre Haute City Council
Bill Thomas, President of Vigo County Council
Vicki Weger, County Council Member.
