The landscape continues to change in Sullivan, as more blighted properties are eliminated within city limits.
It’s a project that’s ben going on for over a year now, and it’s called “The Gotta Go” initiative that goes right along with the city’s motto, “Take Time To Care.”
The city eliminated the old China Wok located in the 200 block of North Section Street. That is in-betwen the car wash and Speedway gas station. The initiative is geared towards eliminating “eyesores” that have plagued the city of Sullivan for far too long.
Homes and other vacant buildings have been torn down in the last year.
Residents continue to be excited about the rehabiliation projects downtown.
“I drive around and see the houses they have torn down and I can remember what they used to look like. You go and you drive by these houses that are falling in and think, gee, that looks bad,” says local resident Betty Grubaugh.
The project has seen nearly 30 vacant homes and buildings cleared in over a year.
