The city of Terre Haute will soon take on another rail overpass project.
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Department of Transportation announced $121 million in state matching funds.
Terre Haute is getting $13,520,000 for an overpass near N. 13th Street and 8th Avenue.
Mayor Duke Bennett says it’s an area that will really benefit from an overpass.
“13th is obviously a big north-south thoroughfare through the middle of the city, emergency traffic. Just a lot of things go through that intersection and about 50 trains a day, so that’s the best place where we can always know you can get across the railroad there,” says Mayor Bennett.
Construction on the project could start in 2020.
If all goes according to schedule, the mayor hopes it will be done by late 2021.
