On Wednesday, CASA and the Department of Child Services came together to raise awareness about a serious issue: child abuse.
A picnic held on the steps of the Vigo County courthouse kicked off “Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month.”
Activities ranged from food to speakers and a ceremony where pinwheels were placed to represent children having a safe carefree place.
Judge Dan Kelly spoke at the gathering. He says it’s very important to spread the word of this month because how much the issue effects our area.
“We’ve seen an increase in cases of abuse and neglected kids and I think it seems directly tied to the problem with addiction that seems to be plaguing our community and many others.” – Dan Kelly Vigo County Juvenile Court Judge
Kelly says it is important to make reports when you suspect a case. To make a report you can contact the Abuse Hotline at 1-800-4-A-Child.
