Tonight on Indiana State University’s campus, a Black History Month celebration that encourages communities to stay strong through the power of song.
Tilson Auditorium hosted the Charles E. Brown Gospel Celebration. The Terre Haute Unity Choir opened the event followed by an ISU alumn who just released a rocord, Davante Lamont. Jekalyn Carr, a Grammy®, Stellar, two-time Billboard Music Award, nominee also performed tonight.
“Music has always been part of that moment, that element that thing that pushed our community, the black community throughout struggles, so everywhere, however we managed, there was always a song,” Kandance Hinton, professor of Education Leadership said.
Indiana State’s Office of Provost sponsored tonight’s event.
