The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce has released a statement supporting the idea of bringing a casino to the city.
The Chamber’s Board of Directors voted this morning in favor of backing legislation to locate a casino in Terre Haute.
Senator Jon Ford is pushing the idea. The Terre Haute Republican has proposed SB354 which would allow the Rising Star Casino to relocate unused gaming positions to a new local facility. Supporters of the idea say the move would generate 1,250 new permanent jobs. They also estimate it would add $10 million in tax revenue to local coffers.
The Chamber’s statement says in part “…this proposal provides a unique opportunity for the legislature to not only protect the revenues of the Rising Sun community, but also provide a stream of revenue for the Vigo County area.”
