As trick or treaters soon prepare to gather up loads of candy, some elderly folks around the Valley are lucky to receive two meals a day.

The Terre Haute area Meals on Wheels helps support that cause and today, they hope to begin an annual event the Boo-a-thon, an opportunity for the community to get out and bowl.

The funds they raise go toward their services to assist those they serve and help with their operation fees.

“We wanted something that can be fun but to also bring money in to help the people in need. Something that could be a family event, something that everybody could be a part of,” Executive director of Terre Haute Meals on Wheels Rita Kaperak said.

Today’s event took place at the Springhill Bowling Center. The goal of the event is to prevent Meals on Wheels from raising their prices so folks can receive two meals a day.
