GREENE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A man in Greene County, Indiana was charged with numerous crimes including attempted murder after local authorities reported he made several threats, crashed a vehicle into the side of a residence, and fired guns into the home.

Shawn Cullison, Detective with the Greene County, Indiana Sheriff’s Department, says in a probable cause affidavit the Greene County Police received a call from a mother, explaining that she, her child, and her partner were receiving threatening texts and phone calls on Dec. 26 starting around 7:12 p.m.

The three people were located at a residence in Worthington, IN, when the mother began to receive threatening texts and calls from her child’s father, Matthew York, 44 of Bloomfield. The three moved to a new location for their safety. After the mother stopped responding to York’s calls and texts, the report states that York called 20 times.

At around 11:16 p.m. local law enforcement from Greene County, Linton, Bloomfield, and Worthington responded to a report from the mother stating that York had been seen on the security camera footage of the Worthington residence. At 11:25 the sound of gunshots was reported from the residence’s live security feed. Deputies arrived on the scene shortly after and reported that there was a black GMC Canyon truck wrecked into the front corner of the residence.

Detective Cullison described the damage to the home in the probable cause report.

“Matthew broke into the home. I could see the door frame was split, and the trim along the door was torn down. The glass was knocked out of the window on the door, and could see several bullet holes through the door, and door frame. I would later look around and notice several bullet holes in the chairs and kitchen table. There are two bullet holes in the closet door, that sits directly across the kitchen from the back door. There was also a single bullet hole in the bedroom door, which is across and left from the backdoor. The residence had a large plant in the kitchen, that also had bullet holes through its leaves. There was a large glass dish sitting on the table on the far end of the kitchen, that had been shot, and glass was all over the top of the table. Deputies recovered a total of 12 spent 45 Caliber shell casings from the backdoor area of the home. I noticed the front window was broken, the front porch had been destroyed, along with possible damage to the foundation of the house. The back door would have to be replaced, along with two interior doors, and the kitchen table and chairs.”

Officers found York walking along the road, approx 1200 feet from the Worthington home with small lacerations on his forehead. Two guns were found, a 45 caliber on York’s person, and a “45 caliber AR style pistol” on the side of the road in a wooded area. Officers said York appeared to be intoxicated.

York has been charged with the following:

  • Attempted Murder
