A Bloomfield man, William L. Abel, faces murder and other charges in the shooting death of a Lawrence County man.
Police say Abel shot and killed Chase Aliano near Abel’s Greene County home on January 31. He denied his involvement in the crime at first but later led police to Aliano’s body that he had buried in a rural area near his property. Abel had also hidden Aliano’s vehicle in a ravine near there.
Authorities became suspicious of Abel when Lawrence County Police followed up a missing person report filed by Aliano’s father. Steve Aliano told police his son had gone to Greene County to possibly sell a firearm to Abel. Lawrence County police then contacted the Greene County Sheriff’s Office that ultimately led to the arrest of Abel.
Abel faces charges of murder, theft, obstruction of justice, false informing and a request for an additional penalty for use of a firearm.
He currently is held in the Greene County Jail.
