Local people are saving lives in the memory of a local teen gone too soon.
Loved ones of 17-year-old Garrett Sands organized a blood drive on Thursday at Cobblestone Crossings Health Campus.
It was in memory of the Terre Haute South Senior who lost his life tragically earlier this year.
His family says Garrett had a servant’s heart and would have been touched by all who rolled up their sleeves on Thursday.
“Garrett was an organ donor and it was something that he was passionate about, and he never got the opportunity to donate blood. When you donate blood, you can save up to four lives each time and it’s something you can do every two months,” says Melissa Willard.
“We have a big family. This is our way of coming together and mourning, and healing together, but also doing something for our community,” says Jayna Sullivan, Garrett’s mother.
They are organizing future events in Garrett’s memory.
