CLAY CO., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Two people were killed Friday evening in a four-vehicle accident on I-70 in Clay County.
Indiana State Police responded to the crash in the eastbound lane at mile marker 19, west of State Road 59.
The crash occurred when traffic merged into the left lane to avoid a semi pulled onto the side of the road. Another semi failed to slow down for the merging traffic, and rear-ended a passenger vehicle.
Two people in the passenger vehicle were killed.
The semi kept going, striking another vehicle with a farm implement on the back, causing a ramp on the trailer to come off, striking a fourth vehicle.
A third person was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
Names have not been released at this time.
Traffic is expected to be down to one lane until around 9 p.m.
