Anonymous call leads to arrest of Michigan prison escapee in Martin County

MARTIN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Police arrested a man that had escaped from a Michigan prison on Saturday in Martin County after an anonymous caller said they saw the man and believed he was dangerous.

Jacob Long, 28, was arrested by police on July 24 at a residence on Rutherford Road in southern Martin County. Long was wanted by the Michigan Department of Corrections on a prison escape warrant with an original charge of armed robbery, police said.

An anonymous caller from Martin County reported seeing long to the sheriff’s office and officers were able to track him down and arrest him without incident, according to a police report. While arresting Long, officers allegedly saw marijuana and drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the car he was driving, which was stolen out of Michigan.

Long is now being held at the Martin County Jail. He is facing charges of auto theft, a felony, marijuana and paraphernalia possession, both misdemeanors, and Michigan Warrant Prison Escape.
