PARIS, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) – Starting Wednesday, August 26, neighborhood street lights will be replaced in the city of Paris.
Ameren Illinois, along with the help of a vendor, Pro Electric, and the International Bureau of Electrical Workers (IBEW) will be replacing fifty streetlamps with LED light bulbs to help the city save on energy costs.
Ameren says the LED lights should last three times longer than traditional bulbs. They’ll also save 55-65 percent more energy and improve night-time visibility. Some other benefits to LED bulbs include:
- They reduce maintenance and operational costs
- They protect the environment by decreasing energy generation and cutting carbon emissions
- Produces a cool white light similar to moonlight
The replacements should be finished by the end of the week.
