GREENWOOD, Ind. (WTHR) – Amazon is coming to Greenwood.
The company has signed paperwork to build a warehouse on the east side of Greenwood, Mayor Mark Myers confirmed to our NBC affiliate WTHR out of Indianapolis Tuesday night.
The new facility would also create 1,250 full-time jobs in central Indiana, which would pay around $14 an hour, plus benefits. Plans call for the “Receive Center” to be built along Allen Road near Graham Road.
“This serves as a distribution center for distribution centers, so it’s a rare type building – one that we run across every couple years,” Ryan Wilson, Amazon economic development manager said last month.
The 615,000-square-foot facility would be built on land where FedEx was going to put a distribution center before scrapping those plans in March. It is not the Amazon “HQ2,” for which Indianapolis is in the running.
