TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Tuesday, Advance West Central PAC hosts a forum in regards to the upcoming casino referendum.
This fall, the fate of a casino in Terre Haute will be in the hands of Vigo County voters.
Those backing the project say, economically, it could have a major impact.
“What other business could you bring into the community and gain seven to ten million dollars a year in perpetuity to a community for jobs, I mean for infrastructure,” said John Collett, chair of Advance West Central Indiana PAC.
Tuesday, the Advance West Central Indiana PAC held a forum to address both the positive and negative discussion surrounding a potential casino.
One of those negatives being gambling addiction, which Collett says he believes Vigo County is equipped to handle.
“I’m not an expert but we have experts in the community. We have Harsha, we have Hamilton Center, we have many experts in the community that we will depend on and rely on. The Chamber of Commerce has actually started to have conversations with those people,” Collett said.
At Tuesday’s forum, most community members spoke in favor of a casino in Terre Haute.
Collett says, he does believe the casino is gaining more support but it will ultimately be up to those that vote.
The Advance West Central Indiana PAC will host a second forum Wednesday.
It will be held at The Landing on Fort Harrison at 6 pm.
