UPDATE: The Terre Haute Fire Department confirmed Monday that the Aug. 14 fire at the Delish Cafe was an accidental electrical fire caused by an unknown electrical issue. According to THFD, the building had been inspected within the last year and was completely up to code.
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A heavy fire around 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Delish Cafe in Terre Haute resulted in what fire officials are considering a total loss for the business. No injuries occurred from the fire.
Vigo County Emergency Dispatch received a call at approximately 3:30 p.m. Thursday saying heavy smoke was coming from the building. Battalion Chief Scott Dalton said three minutes after the call, members of the Terre Haute Fire Department arrived at 2144 N. 25th St. and confirmed the smoke.
Dalton said firefighters initially attempted to put out the flames from the inside of the building but were stopped by heavy fire and heat. After trying another doorway, THFD began putting the fire out from the outside of Delish Cafe.
As of 4:30 p.m., Dalton confirmed the main fire has been put out and THFD members are now working to put out smaller hidden fires inside. Dalton also said that no injuries were caused by the fire because fortunately the business had been closed when it first started.
The fire is now under active investigation by the THFD as they work to determine the cause. The building, Dalton said, is being considered by the department to be a total loss.
