The 641 bypass finally opened today! INDOT put the final touches on the four lane, six mile state highway and the road is ready for local drivers.
641, it’s been a conversation starter for almost 15 years.
“We’ve had several challenges but the good news is we’re finally here.”
Starting Friday , the conversation will surely change.
“It’s going to you know allow them to save some time on their commutes and for traffic that wants to head on i-70 and head east toward Indianapolis and if they’re from the south end that gives them another alternative.”
There will still by some additional work and possible lanes down as crews continue work at the interchange and repairs will be made to the structure of the Mcdaniel Road overpass.
That brings faster convenience rather than the heavily traveled south US 41
“From this day forward it’s going to be exciting to see what this new bypass means to this area and economic benefits it could possibly bring and just hoping to alleviate a little bit of traffic on Third Street, I just think there’s a lot of good things to come.”
Debbie Calder says there will still be work done along the structure of the Mcdaniel Road overpass.
It closed along with 641 back in December, there is still no timeline as to when that work will begin or be complete.
A more extensive look at the history of 641 tells us that it began 15 years ago, since then.
There have been several weather, environmental property and contractor related delays.
By 2014 the work was half complete. We’ve seen a lot of the work later in the timeline in September 2 roundabouts were added to the state road.
