Long before most folks sat down for their turkey dinners, hundreds of people hit the streets of Terre Haute. In what’s become a Thanksgiving tradition, folks turned out Thursday morning for the annual Turkey Trot.
This year, close to 500 people laced up their running shoes for the 5-K race or one mile walk.
Besides the exercise, the event was also a food drive. Runners who donated at least five canned goods got a break on the entry fee.
“I think everybody’s really pumped, it’s a really fun event for everyone, you’ll see we even have people completely dressed out as turkeys and wearing turkeys on their heads and pumpkin pies and stuff,” said Ethan Page, president of Crossroads Event.
Organizers say they saw an increase in the number of people participating this year, and an increase in the amount of food donated. The final tally was around 3,000 pounds of canned goods.
