Technology Matters-Smell Like a Mac

Technology Matters

Do you love the smell of an Apple store? Bring it home with a soy candle that supposedly smells like a new Mac computer.
The candles by Twelve South have notes of mint, peach and basil.  Lavender, mandarin and sage too.
The makers also design accessories for Apple… iPhone cases and iPod covers.
You’ll have to check their website to see if they’re still selling candles.

Pokemon may have health benefits.  It gets sedentary players up and moving.  Microsoft found frequent users of the popular app took 26 percent more steps while playing.
Pokemon popularity has declined a bit, so long-term health benefits aren’t likely.  Back to exercising folks.

Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are denying access to a company giving user data to police.
The ACLU says police used data collected by “Geofeedia” to track activists during recent protest.
ACLU says Baltimore police used Geofeedia to “stay one ahead of rioters” after the death of Freddie Gray.

Facebook out with “Workplace” for businesses.
It looks like Facebook with groups, news feeds and trending stories.
Employees can use it to follow company news.
Workplace is separate from your personal Facebook.  You don’t even need an account to use it.

Social media gets well-deserved grief on occasion, but it does have it’s positives.
Facebook helped a kidney transplant patient in Michigan find a donor.
With her father’s health failing, Kim Charters started “Find Jeff Charters a New Kidney.”
It worked the very first day.  A donor match was found.  Her father has a new kidney.  It came from one of Kim’s classmates.
