Technology Matters-Cyberattack Protection

Technology Matters

Banks — gas stations — colleges.

Just some of the many targets of the world’s biggest cyberattack.

People in at least 150 countries were impacted.  At least 200 thousand machines infected.

This latest ransomware — called Wannacry — is targeting P-Cs running Windows.  If you haven’t, protect your computer by installing any software updates now.  Make that a regular habit.  Turn on auto-updates.  Run Microsoft‘s free anti-virus software or a more potent AV.

Schedule a regular backup routine to save copies of your files.  Do this and you’ll be able restore files from your back up and never have to pay the ransom.

Remember, don’t click on links you don’t recognize or download files from people you don’t know.

If your computers does get hit — don’t pay the ransom to get your files back.  Typically — the thieves take your money — and leave your computer practically worthless.
