Technology Matters-Apple Emojis

Technology Matters

Apple planning to release more than one-dozen new emoji characters later this year.

The announcement was made Monday on World Emoji Day.  Yes, that is a real day, now.

The new additions feature more inclusive roles for women, such as one wearing a headscarf and another breast-feeding.

There’s also a “mind blown” emoji.  Dude!

All approved by the Unicode Consortium.  That’s a real group.

Atari was the first big name for in-home video games and is appealing to nostalgia with this one.

The “Atari-Box” is reminiscent of the original console, with wood paneling, ribbed lines and a raised back.

The gaming pioneer is equipping this puppy with four USB ports, an SD card slot and HDMI.

That’s all Atari will say.  It appears the design is in flux.  No word on a release date.

While you wait on the Atari-Box, you might as well join the herd and sign up for Netflix.  It added five-million newbies in the quarter ending in June.  More than 105-million are now chilling.

The Girl Scouts are promoting skills needed in this tech age

This fall 18 new badges will debut — including a cybersecurity badge.  For the younger scouts — this will include data privacy — cyberbullying and protecting themselves online.

Older scouts will learn coding, being an ethical hacker and building firewalls.

    STEM for scouts.
