GREENE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Residents of Greene County who are pet owners can take advantage of a free opportunity to have their furry loved ones micro-chipped as part of a 20-day-long program.

The Greene County Humane Society has announced the program will begin May 16 and run through June 4 at multiple locations. The microchips being used are provided by a company called Fi which specializes in GPS tracking of family pets. The company will also provide lifetime registration with each microchipped animal.

For the entire 20 days, animals can be brought to the Greene County Humane Society, 1026 N
1375 W, in Linton by appointment to get microchipped and registered.

The humane society plans to host a roadshow of six mini-clinics in different areas of the county
to reach as many animals as possible. The goal is to chip at least 300 animals through their 2022
drive but there is no limit to the number of animals that will be chipped.

President of the board Kegan Inman said this gives them an opportunity to get there pet back.

“When they come in and they don’t have a chip, you know they might be here ,they may nobody may want them, you may wonder if they might of been dumped. Something like that,” Kegan Inman stated. “But when they come in and you scan that chip, you call that number, the excitement in the owners’ voice cause they usually have been looking for them and now they know where their pet is.”
