TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: As of 2 p.m. on July 11, the pool has been re-opened.

Residents looking to cool down will have to look to places other than Deming Park.

In a post on the Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Facebook page, officials announced that results from a 24-hour Total Coliform test came back showing the presence of bacteria in the water.

Pool officials reportedly immediately began treating the water including maintaining chlorine disinfection levels at a higher than normal level. The company that tests the water for Terre Haute doesn’t perform testing on Thursdays, so the test must be taken Friday, with a 48-hour wait time for results to return.

That wait time means the pool will remain closed for at least the weekend. Should test results come back clean the pool will be re-opened Monday, July 11.

Terre Haute Parks and Recreation initially had said a mechanical issue was the cause of the closure, with their latest update they assure everyone that there are no mechanical issues involved.
